LPG gas or oil central heating ? as no mains gas?
I've just inherited a detached bungalow, which has no main line gas supply. Which is more efficient, LPG gas or oil central heating? We are planning to have a wood burning stove in the lounge, possibly solar panels for hot water.
Any suggestions?
Got to go with oil for this one ,apart from the initial expense of setting up the gas tank ,lpg is expensive fuel ,best advice would use the wood burning stove as a space heater only ,reason being with it and the solar you will have two hard to control means of water heating ,ie you cannot turn off the sun ,and the stove may take several hours to cool down ,which could lead to an excess of hot water and heat .Oil and solar work great together as the boiler can be controlled electrically and in tandem with the solar , any money saved should be invested in insulating your new home to reduce the heat loss as much as possible, and so reducing you oil costs to a minimum

I would go for the LPG gas option, the cost of LPG seems to be much more stable that heavy oil.
Ja.

Oil is a lot cheaper and safer. Oil cannot explode and doesn't pose as high of a threat for carbon monoxide poisoning. LPG can explode.

It depends on the prices you can get for oil and LPG in your area. What did the previous occupant use – is there a tank outside?

I would suggest and outdoor wood burning furnace. They are made by various companies and while they burn wood or coal primarily they may be purchased set up to burn a back-up fuel like oil or gas.

i would go for a wood burning stove and let it do your Central heating
we had lpg gas the cost was through the roof, and oil is just as bad
and now we have moved to a bungalow with natural gas, we can
not believe the difference in price

done it
Your wood burner could also supply you with hot water and heating if you fit a boiler type.
You could fit a wet electric boiler for your heating needs. They need very little servicing, you don't need to worry about refuelling and they are 100% efficient.
